At A-Plus Health Services, delivering excellent patient care starts with supporting the nurses who provide that care every day.

In August, our nurses came together for the 2026 A-Plus Nurse Skills Fair, with hands-on sessions held in Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego.

The Skills Fair gave our nurses an opportunity to step away from their individual patient assignments and come together in a collaborative environment focused on learning, hands-on practice, and professional growth.

For many of our nurses, it was also an opportunity to finally meet some of their A-Plus colleagues face-to-face after communicating by phone, text, or email while working independently in the field.

Hands-On Learning

The emphasis throughout the Skills Fair was learning by doing. Rather than simply reviewing clinical procedures on paper, nurses rotated through hands-on competency stations where they could practice commonly used home-infusion skills and equipment.

Hands-on clinical demonstration

Training stations covered skills commonly encountered while caring for home infusion patients, including peripheral IV access and laboratory draws, PICC and central-line care, implanted port access, infusion pump operation, subcutaneous infusion therapy, gravity infusion, bag technique, infection-control practices, and other specialty infusion skills.

The goal was not only to review technique, but also to give nurses an opportunity to work with equipment, ask questions, troubleshoot real-world situations, compare approaches, and reinforce safe clinical practices in a supportive setting.

Learning From One Another

One of the highlights of the Skills Fair was seeing our nurses teaching, encouraging, and helping one another.

Our nursing team includes clinicians with a wide range of backgrounds and experience. Bringing everyone together created an opportunity for newer nurses to learn from more experienced colleagues, while experienced nurses were able to exchange techniques, practical tips, and ideas with one another.

Throughout the sessions, nurses asked questions, demonstrated techniques, compared experiences, and helped each other work through different clinical scenarios. That kind of peer-to-peer learning is difficult to recreate through online education alone.

Practice Builds Confidence

Home infusion nurses often work independently in patients' homes. That makes clinical confidence, preparation, and familiarity with equipment especially important.

Infusion pump competency practice

During the Skills Fair, nurses were able to practice procedures in a supportive environment before encountering them in a patient's home. From vascular access and central-line care to infusion pumps, SCIG therapy, and other specialty equipment, the emphasis throughout the event was on hands-on competency and confidence.

More Than a Training Day

Clinical competency was an important part of the event, but the Skills Fair was about more than completing a checklist.

Collaborative clinical skills workshop

Because our nurses provide care throughout Southern California and spend much of their working day independently in the field, bringing everyone together gave us an opportunity to strengthen relationships, put faces to names, and reinforce the teamwork that supports the care our patients receive every day.

There was plenty of serious clinical work, but there was also conversation, laughter, teamwork, and a genuine sense of community.

Supporting the Nurses Who Care for Our Patients

At A-Plus, we believe that supporting our nurses ultimately means supporting our patients and the pharmacy partners who entrust their patients to us.

Continuing education, competency review, communication, collaboration, and opportunities for hands-on practice all contribute to safer, more consistent, and more confident care in the home.

A Special Thank-You to Our Partners

Option Care Health logo

A special thank-you goes to Option Care Health for joining us and assisting with portions of the training. We greatly appreciate the time, knowledge, and support provided to our nursing team.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to Infusion Connection for generously donating SCIG supplies used during our hands-on training. Having actual supplies and equipment available made the learning experience more practical and meaningful for our nurses.

Partnerships like these help strengthen the clinical community surrounding home infusion and support the quality of care provided to patients.

Thank You to Our A-Plus Nurses

To every nurse who participated: thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to attend, for asking questions, for sharing your experience, for helping your colleagues, and most importantly, for the care you provide to patients and families throughout Southern California every day.

We are proud of the enthusiasm our nurses brought to the Skills Fair. Your willingness to learn, practice, teach one another, and continually improve is exactly what makes the A-Plus nursing team special.

We also extend our appreciation to everyone who helped plan, organize, teach, coordinate supplies, and make the 2026 Nurse Skills Fair possible.

The response from our nurses was tremendously encouraging, and we look forward to continuing opportunities for education, collaboration, and professional growth within the A-Plus nursing team.

To our A-Plus nurses: this celebration is for you. Thank you for everything you do. 💚
